Panama's President Announces Chiquita Panamá Recruitment Drive

Panama's President José Raúl Mulino announced the start of recruitment for 5,000 jobs at Chiquita Panamá. The first phase will open 3,000 vacancies for port workers and service staff. The Ministry of Labor has provided bonuses to those affected by the strikes.

President José Raúl Mulino highlighted that the recruitment process is carried out openly, without the influence of “levers” or political factions. Additionally, the president indicated that the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) delivered 165 bonuses to port workers in Almirante, who were affected by the street closures recorded months ago. The recruitment of labor by the company Chiquita Panamá continues in the province of Bocas del Toro, as part of its reactivation process after its return to the country. Meanwhile, the Minister of Mitradel, Jackeline Muñoz, stated that during the first recruitment day, a total of 848 people were assisted, and in the first hours of the second day, around 250 more had registered. Mulino reported that of the 5,000 jobs that the company will generate, 3,000 vacancies will be opened in this first stage, which is destined for field and cleaning tasks. “This is great news for Bocas del Toro and for the depression that the irresponsible strike activity of mid-year produced,” expressed Mulino. Attendees have had the support of the Mitradel team and personnel from the National Bank, who have guided them on the necessary documentation to be able to apply.
