Panama will host the Olympic wrestling qualifier for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. A training camp featuring medalists and Cuban athletes is underway. The event takes place in December.


Panama Prepares for Wrestling Qualifier

Panama's Olympic wrestling is preparing for the qualifying tournament for this sport, which will be held as part of the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. The games will take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Guillermo Mojica, a member of the board of the Panamanian Wrestling Federation, informed that Panama will host this qualifying tournament, which will be held from December 5th to 7th. It will feature athletes from Central America and the Caribbean. Mojica stated that for this important tournament, a training camp is being held at the Emiliano Betancourt gym in the district of Antón, Coclé province. Mojica detailed that some of the medalists from the recently concluded Central American and Caribbean Games are participating in the camp. Also part of this concentration are athletes from Cuba's national under-23 team, among whom stands out the Pan American champion Jonat Véliz. The coaches for this camp are national instructors Erick Beitia and Catriel Muriel, while from Cuba, Mr. Vladimir Medina Rojo is present. The camp is funded by Pandeportes, the Panamanian Olympic Committee (COP), and the national federation of this sport, with the aim of getting the athletes in the best possible physical and technical condition. The sports leader also informed that the sport of Olympic wrestling will also be present at the Bolivarian Games, which will be held from November 22nd to December 7th in Ayacucho and Lima, Peru. For these regional games, athletes such as Robert Pérez, Ángel Cortés, Yahaira Ibarra, Yusneyiri Agrazal, Manuel Brown, and Ronaldo Montoya will be in action.
