Criminal Group Arrested for Extortion in Arraiján

After Operation Esperanza in Arraiján, eight individuals were arrested for extorting drivers and residents. This group demanded payments from transporters and pressured residents to vacate apartments.


The Senior Prosecutor against Organized Crime, Emeldo Márquez, reported on the results of Operation Hope in Ciudad Esperanza, located in the district of Arraiján. During this operation, eight people dedicated to extorting transporters and residents of the area were arrested.

Prosecutor Márquez detailed that the extortions consisted of intimidating people to vacate their apartments, as well as demanding daily sums of money from local transporters offering ferry services in the area. The main objective of this criminal organization was to appropriate the real estate of the victims.

So far, 16 searches have been carried out, and a total of 8 people have been arrested. They will be presented before a guarantee judge to formalize the charges, legalize the detention, and request the respective precautionary measures.

In the words of Prosecutor Márquez: "We are firmly combating this type of crime that threatens the safety and property of citizens. This operation is an important step in the fight against extortion in the Ciudad Esperanza area."

The operation managed to dismantle a criminal group that was instilling fear and insecurity in the community. The authorities' efforts continue to ensure the peace of citizens and combat this type of criminal activity in the country.
