Early this Thursday morning, the former mayor of Arraiján, Rollyns Rodríguez, was arrested. It was reported that the 14 million dollars from decentralization were intended to reach the communities, and it was also necessary to develop projects in the district. The former mayor is at the disposal of the competent authorities while the proceedings are ongoing. According to investigations, Rodríguez is also being investigated for exceeding his functions and failing to fulfill his public duties. His predecessor, Pedro Sánchez Moró, was sentenced to seven years in prison for a crime against public administration (embezzlement), to the detriment of the Municipality of Arraiján. This is the second mayor of Arraiján to face justice. It is expected that in the coming hours he will be presented before a Guarantees Judge to apply the corresponding precautionary measures. The investigation points to the former official for the alleged misuse of over 14 million dollars from the Decentralization funds.
