Panama Government to Meet with Chiquita Executives

The Government confirmed that on November 18, a meeting will be held with the executives of Chiquita, in which the Minister of Commerce and Industry, the Minister of Labor, and the Minister of Agricultural Development will participate. The meeting will serve to review the status of the works, coordinate pending tasks with the Ministry of Agricultural Development, and ensure that the operation continues as planned. The meeting will follow up on the progress of the banana reactivation plan in Bocas del Toro and the installation of the technical table in charge of coordinating the operation. According to the minister, the company began this week the formal recruitment process for agricultural work, which will require about 3,000 jobs, in addition to previously hired personnel for cleaning tasks. The objective is to resume banana exports between December and January, which would open a second phase of hiring for an additional 2,000 jobs. The Government highlighted that the company is meeting the planned schedule and that institutional support is maintained to ensure that the reactivation proceeds without interruptions.
