A dead dolphin was found on Cabezo Beach, located in Chame, Panama, after being stranded on the shore. Authorities are investigating the causes of its death, with the possibility that propeller impacts from boats were the determining factor.
The incident was reported by local residents, who alerted authorities to the presence of the deceased cetacean on the beach. Immediately, a team of animal health professionals went to the site to collect the specimen and transport it to a marine area, following protocols for respect for the animal.
Claudia Fernández, a biologist and team member, stated: "It is very sad, but it is part of the work of an animal health professional." The professional emphasized the importance of staying calm and preventing inexperienced people from approaching animals in critical situations, as they could worsen the specimen's condition or expose themselves to unnecessary risks.
According to initial investigations, the dolphin may have been a victim of collisions with boats, as injuries consistent with propeller impacts were observed. However, authorities stated that an official forensic study will confirm the exact cause of death. The community hopes this incident will spur actions to protect marine life in the region.
