A sale of discounted Christmas food boxes took place in the Panamanian city of Chepo. Despite long lines and some complaints, most residents were able to purchase groceries, helping them save money ahead of the holidays.

Two hours before the official opening, before 5:00 a.m., people were already ready to grab their Christmas food box and ham, because in tough times, getting food at a good price is worth losing sleep over. Some arrived the day before. Some as early as 2:00 p.m., others in the cold early morning with thermoses, chairs, and stretched-out patience, all just to not miss out on this combo that helps make December weigh less on the wallet. Once the sale began, the process was quick. For 15 balboas, people left with rice, oil, ham, and some peace of mind for their table. But it wasn't all harmonious. There were complaints, shoving, and annoyance. People cutting in line, arguments over queue order, and a strong call for staff and authorities to exert more control next time. 'We've been here for hours, at least they should respect the line,' an annoyed buyer shouted, not letting go of their ticket. Still, the majority agrees: those who waited and bought something left with provisions for their home.
