In the district of Chilibre, the National Police, the Public Ministry, and Customs carried out a search warrant that resulted in the seizure of 46 boxes containing bags with a large quantity of one Balboa coins, which are suspected to be counterfeit.
The operation took place after police units observed a truck unloading merchandise during the early morning at a shopping plaza in Chilibre. Upon inspecting the merchandise, they found the bags of coins and decided to take action, immediately coordinating with the Public Ministry and Customs.
At the location of the search, three individuals were detained and are waiting for the arrival of judicial authorities to carry out the respective procedure. According to preliminary investigations, the seized coins are suspected of being counterfeit and are referred to as "Martinelli coins."
