Panamanian Major League Baseball player Christian Bethancourt confirmed his participation with the Federales de Chiriquí team in the Caribbean Series, which will take place in Guadalajara, Mexico, from February 1 to 7.
Bethancourt, an experienced catcher, reported for the first day of training on Friday, preparing for this traditional tournament. It will feature teams from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, two teams from Mexico (champion and runner-up of the Pacific League), and Panama (Federales de Chiriquí).
"The group arrived in good condition, ready to face this tournament," said Bethancourt after practice at the Rod Carew National Stadium. He also informed that he is in good health to make himself available to the team, and after the tournament, he will report to the Chicago Cubs, who gave him a minor league contract with the opportunity to participate in spring training.
Regarding the group of players he saw in the first practice, Bethancourt highlighted that most are young players, eager to raise the country high.
"I think this is my third time doing a Caribbean Series, and I will continue to do so as long as I am available and injury-free," pointed out the Panamanian catcher.
Panama will debut in the Caribbean Series on Monday, February 2, against Mexico at the Panamericano Charros de Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara.
"The first day of training was positive." "It will always be an honor to represent the country in any international tournament," he added.
