On Thursday, one of the most anticipated projects by the community, the Chitré Interchange Viaduct, welcomed its first users, marking a significant milestone in the project. The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) reported that the official opening of the roadway took place on December 4, 2025, allowing vehicular traffic on the structure located on Avenida Roberto Ramírez De Diego. The regional director of MOP in Herrera, Melissa Castillo, highlighted that this partial delivery represents an important step towards the total completion of the project. She acknowledged that the work has caused inconvenience to users during its construction, but emphasized that "it leaves great satisfaction when the phases are cleared, as it provides much easier mobility for the entire population". Castillo explained that the depressed road or tunnel, another key phase of the project, is still in the final stage of work and is expected to be received by the end of this month, prior to the official inauguration of the interchange. Final details are currently being completed, such as the tunnel's lining, while the roadway is already ready for use. She also noted that teams are working on adjusting signage, an essential component for road safety, and other complementary needs, such as possible turnarounds, are being evaluated to optimize traffic flow.

"It leaves great satisfaction when the phases are cleared, because it provides much ease of mobility for the entire population," said Melissa Castillo.
