School bus owners backed ATTT inspections but demanded equal rules for all operators, warning about risks from unlicensed transport services.

School Bus Drivers in Chitré Demand Action Against Illegal Transport

Drivers and owners of school buses in Chitré urged authorities to take action against illegal transport services, voicing support for inspections ahead of the school year. They argued that regulations must be applied equally, as school buses are not the only ones providing this service.

During a vehicle inspection by the Land Transit and Transport Authority (ATTT), officials announced safety inspections for school buses and driver training before classes begin.

“This process is good for us because we need to be compliant,” said Julio Pinilla, a local driver and owner.

However, he raised concerns about informal operators transporting students without authorization or safety certificates. Owners called for stricter enforcement, emphasizing that regulations should apply to everyone.
