The authorities reiterated the call on citizens to make their purchases in an orderly manner, take preventive measures, and support local commerce, which continues to be a fundamental pillar for the region's economic development. This behavior has strengthened the business climate and positively reactivated the local economy, according to the merchants themselves. In parallel, the municipal authorities granted more than 50 permits for the installation of temporary stalls on Central Avenue and its surroundings, allowing small entrepreneurs to offer crafts, gifts, fruits, sweets, and other products. During the last weekend, a greater influx of people was observed on Central Avenue, shopping plazas, and adjacent areas, where families and buyers browsed establishments in search of gifts, decorative items, food, fruits, and seasonal products. Faced with the increase in commercial activity, the National Police reported the reinforcement of surveillance operations in commercial areas, as well as on the outskirts and residential areas, in order to prevent thefts, robberies, and other criminal actions, and to guarantee the safety of the population during these dates. And it is that the owners of establishments highlight an increase in sales, driven by the high demand for Christmas products, gifts, clothing, footwear, and home goods. This has generated an atmosphere of economic dynamism that benefits merchants, entrepreneurs, and consumers, after a year described by many as particularly difficult. The boom in sales during this period represents an opportunity for local entrepreneurs, who find in this season one of the most important of the year to strengthen their businesses, generate temporary jobs, and contribute to the boost of the economy in the province. With the arrival of the festive season, due to the Christmas and New Year holidays, a notable increase in commercial activity has been registered in the district of Chitré.
