In the city of Chitré, Panama, the inauguration of the XXV National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba took place. During the event, participants called to strengthen ties of brotherhood with the Island amid subversive campaigns against sovereignty in the region. The Cuban ambassador in Panama, Víctor Cairo, led the opening of this important meeting at the Damasco retirement home.
Several speakers highlighted the importance of defending the historic ties that unite both peoples. In a message during the event, the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, praised the work of solidarity groups with Havana in Panama and invited participation in the World Marathon of Love for Cuba, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of that institution in 2025.
For his part, Ambassador Cairo emphasized the importance of initiatives aimed at key areas of solidarity with Cuba, such as the condemnation of the blockade imposed by the United States. The reinclusion of Cuba in a list of supposedly state sponsors of terrorism was mentioned as part of the political pressure against the Island.
Under the slogan “Dedicated with love to Cuba for its dignity and resistance,” new initiatives are expected to be promoted in complex times related to the sustainability of the national electrical system. The ambassador emphasized that these meetings demonstrate that Cuba is not alone and also serve to express solidarity with Panama against threats such as the idea of regaining control of the canal by certain sectors.
During the inauguration ceremony, recognitions were granted to personalities and groups that have supported the work of the Cuban Revolution, including Ambassador Cairo and the collective of the Cuban embassy in Panama. The work of ICAP, founders of solidarity movements in Panama, and other provincial groups was also praised. Various international organizations sent greetings to the meeting, highlighting the importance of solidarity in difficult times.
