Panama - Following the apprehension of a Venezuelan citizen for his alleged involvement in the murder of 43-year-old Indian-origin merchant Amitkumar Vasantbhai, which occurred in a shopping mall in Chitré, Herrera province, the suspect was brought before a guarantees judge for the corresponding hearing. During the judicial proceeding, the Public Ministry charged him with aggravated homicide, while a provisional detention order was issued as a precautionary measure while investigations into this bloody incident continue. The investigation is being carried out by the Herrera Homicide Prosecutor's Office, led by prosecutor Edilma Flores, who during the hearing presented various elements linking the foreigner to the case. Furthermore, this case became the first homicide recorded this year in the Herrera province. Inside the vehicle, authorities located ammunition and clothing, which are part of the evidence presented in the process. The Public Ministry now has a six-month period to continue the investigation, gather new evidence, and fully clarify the circumstances surrounding this homicide and determine the involvement of other individuals in the incident. Meanwhile, a large number of people, mainly compatriots of the murdered merchant, traveled to a cemetery in West Panama province on Saturday for his burial. Among these elements is the vehicle that was abandoned in the city of Chitré, which, according to investigations, had been rented by the Venezuelan citizen. The bloody incident occurred in broad daylight, in the morning, in a shopping mall in Chitré, outside a store where the merchant was conducting some transactions, and in front of several people, which caused great commotion among residents and merchants in the region.
