Maintenance crews from the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) carried out cleaning work on the Transístmica highway, specifically on the stretch between Villa Luzmila and the Los Lagos residential area, known as La Feria, in the corregimiento of Cristóbal Este, province of Colón. Guillermina Vanega, a 27-year-old driver, stated that this type of cleaning should be done permanently so that these gutters are always clean. Meanwhile, Abraham González, another 33-year-old driver, opined that citizens should also contribute by not throwing trash out of their car windows into the gutters. During the operation, a considerable amount of weeds, sediments, and solid waste that had accumulated was removed, which was preventing the proper drainage of rainwater and represented a risk to the roadway. These tasks aim to keep this important artery in optimal condition, facilitate the free flow of water, and reduce the risk of flooding that could affect nearby communities and users traveling through the area. The MOP called on the public to cooperate in the care of public roads, by not throwing garbage into gutters and roads, practices that cause blockages and harm the environment.
