As part of the 'Carnival without Smuggling' operation, customs inspectors have intensified verifications in the areas of maritime ports, the free trade zone, the highway, the city of Colón, and even coastal communities vulnerable to smuggling activity, which harms the country's economy through tax evasion. The driver of a private vehicle was intercepted by customs inspectors and could not present documentation to support the corresponding tax payment. Consequently, both the vehicle and the citizen were referred to the Customs headquarters for the corresponding procedure. Cigarettes valued at approximately 28 thousand dollars, of alleged contraband, were seized by inspectors of the Directorate of Prevention and Customs Control in the province of Colón.
