Panama Announces Medical Price Cuts and New Investments

The President of the Republic of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, announced a series of relevant announcements during his usual weekly press conference. He highlighted a reduction in the prices of 20 essential medications, which will be immediately available at the Ministry of Health (MINSA) pharmacies nationwide. This measure aims to make these drugs more accessible to all Panamanians, covering common diseases such as diabetes, anxiety, depression, among others.

Mulino emphasized that efforts to reduce the prices of these medications are independent of private pharmacies, which maintain their own catalog. He mentioned that those most requested and necessary for the population have been selected, such as analgesics, antibiotics, and treatments for respiratory diseases.

In addition, new investments in public transportation were announced with the purchase of 60 electric buses to strengthen the MiBus fleet. This acquisition of 26 million dollars, financed through a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), aims to modernize the service with an ecological focus and serve about 20,000 daily users on 12 routes.

On another topic, information was provided about the reactivation of the construction of the Mariano Bula stadium in Colón, with an investment of 15.9 million dollars. Mulino regretted that the project, which initially had that cost, actually rose to 33.7 million due to alleged irregularities in previous contracts, requesting investigations by the Public Ministry.

The president also addressed the immigration situation in Darién, highlighting a decrease in the flow of migrants compared to previous months. It was explained that collaboration is ongoing with the United States and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on a humanitarian transit program to support those in greatest need.

In summary, Mulino's commitment to transparency in public administration and the reduction of bureaucracy is reflected in these actions aimed at improving the quality of life for Panamanians.
