Inspections of cruise ships in the Port of Colón

Cruise ships arriving at the ports in the province of Colón are subject to a series of inspection controls, which are carried out by the Executive Directorate of Agropecuary Quarantine of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA). Phytosanitary surveillance and preventive reviews seek to detect any product, pest, or disease that poses a risk to national production. Recently, inspectors attended to various tourist vessels in the province of Colón. The operation was carried out at pier 6 of the Port of Cristóbal, in Colón, where 268 suitcases from passengers of the Le Champlain cruise ship were inspected. According to MIDA, this routine control is essential to intercept unauthorized agricultural products that could compromise the country's sanitary status. These inspections of passengers, luggage, and supplies are carried out uninterruptedly at all docking points. Since October, there has been an increase in the arrival of cruise ships to the province of Colón, where tourists from other latitudes arrive.
