New Colón Hospital Attends Over 11,000 Patients in First Month

In January of this year, the new Dr. Manuel Amador Guerrero hospital in the province of Colón has attended to approximately 11,562 people who came to this medical center seeking care, reported the Social Security Fund (CSS). This involved emergency services, hospitalizations, surgeries, and births.

In 2024, this new hospital, after being delayed for years, was delivered by the current administration. It is located behind the current Hugo Spadara Polyclinic (Coco Solo) in the Cristóbal Este district.

The new hospital began operations in these new facilities after the complete transfer of patients from the old premises, carried out on December 5 of last year.

Of the attendances, 11,562 were emergency cases, 1,052 hospitalizations, 678 surgeries, and 270 births are detailed.

The hospital has 474 beds, nine operating rooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology, four delivery and cesarean rooms, and 87 outpatient consultation offices.

The population of Colón also has access to sub-specialties such as neurology, maternal-fetal medicine, proctology, plastic surgery, algology, and interventional medicine, reducing the need for transfers to the capital city.

During its first month, the hospital dispensed nearly 26,000 medications, performed over 45,000 laboratory tests, and almost 5,000 radiological studies, strengthening comprehensive patient care.

According to the CSS, the old facilities of the Dr. Manuel Amador Guerrero Hospital, in the city of Colón, maintain basic care, maintenance, and protection of the building, as it is a high-value institutional heritage.

In addition, it has modern medical equipment such as CT scanners, mammograms, and radiology systems, which allow for faster and more accurate diagnoses.

Among the new services enabled are pulmonology, specialty, and burn rooms, as well as a gastroenterology procedures unit.
