The Nueva Esperanza Penitentiary Center, located in the province of Colón, has reported a total of 13 cases of tuberculosis this year. Julio Alexis Palacios, head of Epidemiology for the Colón Health Region, reported that five of these cases have already completed their treatment for the disease.
In light of this situation, it is recommended that the Ministry of Government suspend family visits at the penitentiary as a preventive measure to avoid the spread of tuberculosis. It is important to take actions that prevent the appearance of new cases and protect the health of inmates and prison staff.
The Ministry of Health (MINSA) clarified that, although there have been cases of tuberculosis reported in the penitentiary, it is not considered that there is an outbreak of the disease in this facility. It is essential to maintain constant monitoring of the situation and continue implementing prevention and treatment protocols to control any possible outbreak.
