A 43-year-old woman, accused of embezzling funds from the Parents' Association of the Omar Torrijos Herrera Institute, located in Costa Abajo, Colón, has been handed over to the judicial authorities to answer for this illicit act. According to the information gathered, she began taking money from this educational institution in 2024. While serving as the president of the Parents' Association of the Professional and Technical Institute (IPT) in Coclesito, she abused her position of trust and seized $4,892.45, which belonged to the association. This led to her arrest on December 17, 2025, at her residence in Burunga, district of Arraiján, province of West Panama, after being charged with the crime against economic property in the aggravated theft modality. This case is being investigated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Omar Torrijos Herrera district. During a hearing held in the Accusatory Penal System (SPA) of Colón, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Omar Torrijos Herrera also managed to have the Guarantee Court legalize the apprehension and the formulation of charges against this citizen. In the same hearing, the woman was granted a precautionary measure of provisional detention.
