Panamanian Authorities Reinforce Controls in Colón Ports

Authorities in the province of Colón and executives of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) agreed to reinforce controls, especially at sensitive points such as the Miramar dock, where the arrival of migrants is constant. Since January 2, 2026, the AMP has increased the presence of inspectors at this dock to verify that vessels operate in compliance and that their captains meet legal requirements. During a meeting, the AMP insisted that transfers must only be made on vessels with valid permits and with properly licensed captains. Alexander De Gracia, Deputy Administrator of the AMP, explained that coordination between institutions aims to maintain control, order, and security in the area, and for maritime operations to be carried out responsibly and regulated. In turn, the Governor of Colón, Julio Hernández, pointed out that the meeting yielded clear results. He indicated that the AMP provided parameters that will allow reinforcing the decree that seeks to strengthen security measures in the province's ports. At the table, in addition to AMP personnel, were Governor Hernández, Deputy Nelson Jackson, community representatives, and authorities from the National Migration Service (SNM) and the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN).
