The arrests were made at the residences of both former officials as part of the "Operation Community 2.6". The operation also involved agents of the National Police and the Judicial Investigation Directorate in the province of Colón. Based on this report, irregularities were found in funds transferred to the Cristóbal Community Board, causing an economic impact on the State of $339,729.64. The judicial proceedings were carried out by officials of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office for the alleged commission of crimes against the Public Administration in the form of different types of embezzlement (aggravated embezzlement by extension). The arrested persons were taken to the city of Panama before the Guarantee Judge for the corresponding hearings. Both are wanted following an audit report prepared by the Comptroller General's Office. On the morning of this Tuesday, January 13, Edgar Góndola, former representative of the Cristóbal district in the previous period for the PRD, and the former treasurer of the community board of this populous sector of the Colón district, were arrested for the crime of embezzlement. These funds came from the decentralization program and the Social Investment Program (PDIS).
