Panama - Roberto Pinto, 29, was sentenced to 9 years in prison for armed robbery against a Cuban tourist. The incident took place in the city of Colón in January of this year. The sentence was the result of a plea agreement presented to the Guarantees Court in Colón. Pinto was convicted of aggravated robbery. The case was handled by the First Section of Crimes against Economic Property of the Regional Prosecutor's Office of Colón and Guna Yala. During the hearing to validate the plea agreement, the Prosecutor's Office also succeeded in having the Guarantees Court impose an accessory penalty of a weapons prohibition on the sentenced individual for the same period as the main sentence, upon its completion. The incident occurred on the morning of January 24, 2026, in the Barrio Sur district of the city of Colón, when Pinto, using violence and intimidation, attacked a group of Cuban tourists. He robbed one of them of her purse, which contained $850, 2,800 Cuban pesos, a cell phone, two perfumes, and other items. However, after the incident was reported, the National Police managed to apprehend Pinto and bring him before the judicial authorities to face justice.
