Early Tuesday morning, an inmate at the Nueva Esperanza Penitentiary Center in Colón, identified as Daniel Amir Bernal, died after falling from the roof inside the prison. The prison is located in the Arco Iris community in the Cristóbal district.
The incident occurred around 1:28 a.m. when a loud noise was heard. National Police agents and guards rushed to the scene and found the inmate lying on the ground. Bernal was in sector 3, serving time for femicide.
According to reports, the inmate was trying to retrieve a package that was being smuggled into his cell using a drone, but he lost his balance and fell from the roof to the ground floor, right in front of sector 11, known as Golfo Kuna.
