A 24-year-old man in Colón was detained by police for illegal possession of a firearm. During a court hearing, he was charged and placed under provisional detention.

Panama – On the morning of March 23, 2026, an incident occurred on 16th Street in the city of Colón, Barrio Sur district. A 24-year-old young man was detained at a police checkpoint for illegal possession of a firearm. A 9mm caliber pistol, a magazine, and three cartridges were found on him, for which he had no legal permit. After being detained, he was taken to the police station and then handed over to the Public Ministry. During the hearing at the Guarantees Court, the prosecutor also managed to legalize the apprehension and the formulation of charges against this man. In this same hearing, he was informed that he faces the crime of illegal possession of a firearm, for which provisional detention was ordered as a precautionary measure. The case is being handled by officials from the Section of Crimes against Collective Security and Economic Order of the Regional Prosecutor's Office of Colón and Guna Yala.
