Dry Law to be Enforced in Colón on Good Friday

The Mayor of the district of Colón, Diógenes Galván, and the Secretary General of the municipality, César Arias, have signed a decree ordering the suspension of the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages throughout the district next Friday, April 3, 2026. This measure, known as the "Dry Law," will be in effect from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., forcing establishments such as bars, nightclubs, liquor stores, and supermarkets to cease these activities and keep their liquor sales areas closed. Likewise, the decree establishes the total closure of nighttime entertainment centers and prohibits the use of sound equipment, karaoke, or the holding of dance events accompanied by orchestras or mobile units during the specified period. The objective of these provisions is to guarantee the respect, reflection, and meditation proper to the commemoration of Holy Week in the community. Local authorities, including the National Police and Justices of the Peace, have been empowered to ensure strict compliance with this regulation. Non-compliance with these measures carries economic fines ranging from 100 to 1,000 dollars.
