8 Billion Investment in Infrastructure in Panama

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) plans to invest 8,000 million balboas in infrastructure projects over the next decade. One of the main projects of this investment will be the construction of a new multipurpose reservoir on the Indio River, located west of the province of Colón, with an estimated cost of 1,900 million balboas.

This reservoir will not only supply water to the Panama Canal locks to ensure their operability, but it will also help strengthen the region's water security. Additionally, it is expected to generate electricity through a hydroelectric plant.

The ACP administrator, Ricauter Vásquez Morales, emphasized the importance of these investments to ensure the sustainability and efficient operation of the Panama Canal in the long term. In his words, "these projects reflect our commitment to innovation, quality infrastructure, and sustainable development."

The investment of 8,000 million balboas will be allocated to different initiatives aimed at improving the capacity and operational efficiency of the canal, as well as to projects that promote environmental care and the sustainable use of natural resources in the region.
