Heavy Rains and Winds Damage Homes in Colón Province, Panama

On Monday, February 2, several areas in Panama's Colón province on the Atlantic coast experienced heavy rain and strong winds. In the Cativá area, the roof of a house was blown off in the Villa Liriola community. The residents recounted that around 3:00 a.m., they first heard a loud noise, and then suddenly the entire roof was torn off as they desperately tried to escape the house. Elsewhere, a banana tree fell onto a taxi due to the intense rains in the same area. José Murillo, regional director of Panama's National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc), reported that the province is experiencing strong breezes, high waves, and adverse weather conditions. He detailed that roof damage has been reported in the communities of Miramar, María Chiquita in the Upper Coast of Colón, the city center, and the route to the Lower Coast of Colón. He mentioned that a watch advisory is in effect until February 4, but it may be extended, so monitoring will continue and the public will be informed.
