Colón once again looks at the sky with concern. The unstable climate, marked by constant rains, has volunteers and officials of the National System for Civil Protection (Sinaproc) on high alert in this Caribbean province. In recent weeks, the overflowing of rivers and streams has caused water to enter homes, leaving more than 100 families affected, many of them with losses and living in moments of anguish. Luis Murillo, head of the Sinaproc delegation in Colón, reported that permanent monitoring is maintained, supported by weather forecasts, which indicate light to moderate rains, but with the possibility of intensification. This monitoring covers not only the province of Colón, but also coastal areas, part of Veraguas, and the Guna Yala region, which are vulnerable to any increase in rainfall. Authorities recommend that those planning to enter rivers or the sea stay well informed about weather conditions and comply with all safety measures to avoid tragedies. The city of Colón itself is among the most susceptible areas to flooding, especially when rains fall with greater intensity.
