The new Dr. Manuel Amador Guerrero Hospital in Colón, Panama, has significantly improved access to medical services for the local population. In its first month of operation, the facility provided care to thousands of patients. According to data from the Caja de Seguro Social, the hospital dispensed nearly 26,000 medications, performed over 45,000 laboratory tests, and nearly 5,000 radiological studies, strengthening comprehensive patient care. Notably, about 1,000 people received care in the emergency department, and 52 patients were hospitalized. The hospital is equipped with 474 beds, nine state-of-the-art operating rooms, four delivery rooms, and 87 outpatient consultation offices. The new facility began operating in these new premises on December 5th, following the completion of the patient transfer from the old buildings. In January 2026, a total of 11,562 people have been attended to at the new facilities of the Dr. Manuel Amador Guerrero Hospital in Colón. In 2024, after years of delays, the new hospital was delivered by the current administration, located behind the current Policlínica Hugo Spadadora (Coco Solo) in the corregimiento of Cristóbal Este. Additionally, a total of 678 surgeries were performed and 270 births were recorded. Among the new services enabled are pulmonology, specialty and burn rooms, as well as a gastroenterology procedures unit. The population of Colón also has access to sub-specialties such as neurology, maternal-fetal medicine, proctology, plastic surgery, algology, and interventional medicine, reducing the need for transfers to the capital city. Furthermore, it is equipped with modern medical equipment such as CT scanners, mammography machines, and radiology systems, allowing for faster and more accurate diagnoses.
