Minister of Public Security Frank Ábrego stated that control measures, such as checkpoints, are not only an action for crime prevention and offender search but also a traffic measure that helps prevent accidents and reduce deaths from fatal crashes.

He reported that, unfortunately, according to statistics, the provinces of Colón and Panamá are the places where the most incidents are recorded. Over the past two weeks, through the macro operation “Odyssey” in its first and second phases, efforts have been made to reinforce security and combat crime.

Ábrego added that the results have been presented at various press conferences, and this strategy has also been applied in penitentiary centers, where a large amount of illicit material that inmates should not possess has been recovered.

Regarding the use of technology in security through drones, he stated that a test is being conducted with a company, “precisely to evaluate its capacity and effectiveness, and to be able to carry out a public tender that allows acquiring a greater number of drones at a national level, directed towards the areas with the highest criminal incidence, in this case, Colón and Panamá”.

Ábrego made these statements during the graduation of 79 new sub-lieutenants at the Officers' School of the Police in Davis, located on the outskirts of the city of Colón.
