Man Arrested in Panama for 2018 Femicide

In Panama, a 39-year-old man was arrested and brought before a guarantee judge to initiate his judicial process, where he was provisionally detained in connection with a femicide case against a woman who worked in a company in the Colón Free Zone dating back to 2018. The judicial case is handled by officials from the Specialized Homicide and Femicide Section of the Colón and Guna Yala Regional Prosecutor's Office against this individual, who becomes the second person linked to the crimes of femicide and aggravated robbery. On that date, the body of Rosa Miguelina Valdez, known as "Titi", was found on September 23, 2018, in a company within the Colón Free Zone. The investigation revealed that the violent act occurred on September 18, 2018, in the corregimiento of Cristóbal, in the Colón Free Zone area, between 15th Street and 16th Avenue F, when the accused, accompanied by another person, took advantage of the woman's physical vulnerability, injuring her and depriving her of her liberty inside a warehouse. Subsequently, they sexually abused her, suffocated her, took her money and valuables. This led to the accused being apprehended on March 25 during a raid in the community of La Feria (Los Lagos), corregimiento of Cristóbal Este, for being sought for the crime against life and personal integrity. During the hearing, the Prosecutor's Office presented the evidence of conviction to the Guarantee Tribunal, linking this man to the fact, thus carrying out an exhaustive investigation with the auxiliary arms. Therefore, the Court legalized the apprehension and formulation of charges against this citizen.
