Panamanian police discovered over 127 bales of counterfeit footwear worth $400,000 hidden in trucks transporting rice bran, intended to evade customs control.


Police Seize Over $400,000 in Counterfeit Goods

The National Police, through the Directorate of Judicial Investigation (DIJ), located and detained two trucks in the district of La Chorrera that were heading towards the province of Chiriquí. The vehicles declared to be transporting sacks of rice bran.

Due to suspicion of a possible illicit cargo, search warrants were executed on both trucks in conjunction with the Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office.

During the inspection, 127 bales were found containing sneakers and slippers of presumably counterfeit brands.

The bales were hidden inside and under the sacks of rice bran, with the intention of evading verification controls.

The seized merchandise would have an approximate value of 400 thousand dollars.

The evidence has been placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities for the corresponding proceedings, while the corresponding investigations begin.
