MOP Announces New Road Projects to Strengthen Connectivity in West Panama

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) presented a detailed report on the progress of road works and new strategic projects designed to boost the development of the West Panama province.

These maintenance actions are concentrated in key areas of La Chorrera and Arraiján, extending to the beach areas and the districts of Capira, Chame (including Nueva Gorgona) and San Carlos. During the session, the technical team also addressed the status of road production projects and connections inherited from previous administrations, such as the works in Vacamonte, the Bique-Veracruz connection, and the continuity of the Beach Corridor.

Regarding the management of the existing road network, the MOP reported on the intensive execution of patching and rehabilitation programs for internal streets. On this road, crews are carrying out cleaning and sanitation work on the stretch between Nuevo Emperador and El Centenario. The project includes the expansion of vehicle bridges, the design of new interchanges, turnarounds, and the construction of pedestrian crossings to improve road safety in the area.

During the first Provincial Council of 2026, the Ministry of Public Works presented the infrastructure plan, which includes the expansion of the Beach Corridor and the rehabilitation of strategic roads. The presentation was made in the presence of local authorities, Governor Marilyn Vallarino, and specialized technical teams.

The MOP's Secretary General, Ricardo Icaza Huertas, highlighted in the third person the importance of the Beach Corridor Expansion Megaproject. These works contemplate the removal of contamination from explosives, a critical step for the full recovery of this strategic route for provincial mobility.
