West Panama Transporters Postpone Fare Increase Decision

In the province of West Panama, the leadership of public transport has postponed until Friday, March 27, its decision to adopt a possible fare increase due to the rise in fuel prices. Kelly Filos, leader of the La Chorrera Drivers and Motorists Union (SICAMOCH), said that on that date the deadline given to the Government to present an option that would allow avoiding a fare increase will expire. The decision was made after a meeting with the director of the Transit and Land Transport Authority (ATTT), Nicolás Brea, last weekend. Meanwhile, Filos indicated that within the guild, they are testing the measure of granting a $13.00 subsidy on fuel when, due to passenger demand at the Albrook transport terminal, it is necessary to send empty buses. In turn, another SICAMOCH transport leader, Eliecer Montenegro, pointed out that other measures have been adopted, such as changes in the departure schedules of buses to the capital city, to ensure that the buses travel with the maximum number of passengers allowed. The change in the frequency of bus departures will cause passenger crowding at stops, especially in the morning, so the transport leader apologized to the users.
