The Ministry of Health will use photovoltaic systems to supply efficient and sustainable energy to aqueducts being installed in communities off the electrical grid in the district of La Chorrera, West Panama province.
In total, seven wells will be drilled in the communities of: Las Yayas, El Zaino, Altos del Jobo, La Colorada, Hules Centro, Altos de Espavé and El Broquel.
Drilling and installation of the photovoltaic systems are being carried out by the Directorate of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Subsector (DISAPAS).
This directorate will also be in charge of monitoring and supervising the quality of water from these underground wells.
According to a MINSA report, similar systems will be installed in communities in the districts of Capira, Chame and San Carlos.
Parallel to this, work is being done to improve the water intake that supplies the communities of El Dormidero, La Agustina, La Uva, El Espino and El Hatillo.
This aqueduct system supplies 640 people living in 160 homes, according to this ministry's records.
