In Panama, a 31-year-old man has been arrested on charges of attempting to murder his 31-year-old partner by spraying fuel in the room where she was located. The detention took place after a hearing in the Accusatory Penal System (SPA) in Western Panama. The incident occurred during the night of January 7th in the Playa Leona district of La Chorrera. This incident is classified as a femicide attempt. The victim suffered first and second-degree burns on 60% of her body, which is why she remains admitted to Santo Tomás Hospital. During the hearing, the guarantees judge applied the precautionary measure of provisional detention, based on the danger he represents to the community and the risk of attacking the victim's life. In 2024, six femicide attempts were recorded in the province of Western Panama. Nationally, there were four femicide attempts where the victims suffered severe burns.
