La Chorrera City Council Considers Executing Performance Bond Against Veolia

The municipal controller, Jerovy Aparicio, stated that it is up to the municipal council to decide on the application of the twenty-seventh clause of the contract, which addresses the performance bond. Aparicio also made a new call for Veolia Panamá to comply with the waste collection schedule presented in mid-2025. He mentioned that nine fines of $500.00 each have already been imposed on the cleaning company based on citizen complaints filed in October 2025 for non-compliance with the service. He added that a new package of fines is being prepared following new reports of service non-compliance. Auril Henríquez, head of the Administration of Justice, said that the cleaning company has filed several reconsideration appeals against the imposed fines. Due to the ongoing crisis caused by Veolia Panamá's failure to provide waste collection services, the La Chorrera City Council did not rule out the possibility of executing the performance bond stipulated in the contract. The bond presented by the Metropolitan Cleaning Company (EMAS) was set in contract No. 01-2006, signed in June 2007, for an amount of $350,000.00 and granted by Interoceánica de Seguros.
