In La Chorrera, they demand to maintain the stability of peace judges

The Municipal Council of La Chorrera approved a resolution requesting the Minister of Government, Dinoska Montalvo, to maintain the positions of peace judges and mediators who were previously selected in accordance with Law 16 of 2016. Article 100 of Executive Decree 25 of 2025, which regulates Law 467 of 2025, states that "With the entry into force of Law 467 of 2025, the judges and community mediators in office who acquired their position through the selection process shall remain in their positions until the end of their respective terms." Eliecer Zambrano, the proponent of the resolution, indicated that in this district, nine peace judges and mediators operated, administering justice in 18 districts. According to Zambrano, the peace judges have warned that they are being replaced. This is happening without respecting the term of service for which they were elected, as established in Article 20 of Law 16 of 2016, which is 10 years. They also reported that their salary was reduced by $200.00 and they were transferred from one district to another to perform their duties. Zambrano insisted that the Ministry of Government must comply with what is established in Law 16 of June 17, 2016, which institutes Community Peace Justice, and Law 467 of April 24, 2025. In addition, the appointment of the nine missing peace judges must be carried out so that each of the 18 districts has its justice administrator.
