La Chorrera Mayor's Office Repeals 24-Hour Nightclub Operation

The new administration of La Chorrera has repealed decrees from the previous administration that allowed some nightclubs to operate 24/7. Establishments are now required to close at 4 AM on weekends. The motivation for this decision was numerous citizen complaints regarding noise, brawls, and shootings at six specific clubs in the city center.

Through legal actions, the La Chorrera mayor's office proceeded to invalidate the mayoral decrees issued by the previous municipal administration that allowed some nightlife establishments to operate 24 hours a day. The new mayoral decree issued by the administration of Mayor Eloy Chon indicates that nightlife establishments must close at 4:00 AM on weekends. According to the Secretary General of the La Chorrera Municipality, the largest number of citizen complaints is against six nightlife venues, all located in the district's center. Lee described the decision of the previous La Chorrera mayoral administration to extend operating hours in some nighttime entertainment centers as 'irresponsible.' Roberto Lee, Secretary General of the La Chorrera municipality, stated that two of the venues that had a permit for extended hours had accumulated several citizen complaints for brawls and scandals, as well as shootings. He added that an edict has already been posted on the door of one of the venues whose owner refused to attend the citations to be notified of the resolution against him. The lawyers for the owner of one of these venues filed an appeal for protection, which is pending a decision from the Governorship of West Panama. He added that achieving the annulment of the decrees extending operating hours was a legal process that took several months due to the legal resources presented by the lawyers of the merchants.
