La Chorrera Gym Renovation Begins

March 24, 2026, marked the start of the renovation of the municipal gym in La Chorrera. Mayor Eloy Chong indicated that thanks to this project, athletes, many of whom possess great talent but have limited financial resources, will now have a local training option without having to travel to gyms in the capital. The facilities, which served as a provisional public market in La Chorrera until 2024, will be transformed into a municipal gym through an investment of funds from the Property and Real Estate Taxes (IBI) disbursed by the National Decentralization Authority. The works include complete floor covering, new bathrooms, adequate ventilation, lighting, and parking. On Tuesday, municipal authorities held the groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation project. These facilities were already being used by athletes in disciplines such as boxing, karate, and fencing, who had temporarily relocated to the La Chorrera Fairgrounds. Aquiles Acevedo, the municipal director of decentralization, stated that the company in charge of the work will have 150 days from the completion of the project. César Osorio, a boxing coach, affirmed that daily, about 100 athletes from various contact sports train at these facilities.
