Strategies to Boost Corn Production are Strengthened

The Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA), in coordination with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the Institute of Agricultural Innovation of Panama (IDIAP), held the training "Strengthening Capacities in Corn Cultivation." The event took place at the CIDETE Training Center of the University of Panama, in Las Tablas, Los Santos province.

The event was mainly aimed at MIDA technicians from the provinces of Herrera and Los Santos who handle the corn sector in their respective agencies, with the aim of strengthening their knowledge and skills to provide more efficient support to producers in the region.

According to the entity, the first conference was given by researcher Román Gordón, from the Azuero Agropecuary Research Center (IDIAP–CIA), on the topic "Agronomic Management of Corn Cultivation in Panama," where aspects such as soil management, fertilization, available technologies, and practices aimed at increasing field yields were addressed.

Subsequently, researchers Ana Sáez and Jorge Núñez (IDIAP–CIA Azuero) presented the lecture "Physiological and Growth Indicators to Evaluate Corn Performance," in which technical parameters for measuring crop development, identifying limitations, and optimizing decision-making by technicians and producers were explained.

The closing of the event was in charge of Engineer Osvaldo Higuera, coordinator of the Corn and Sorghum Program of the MIDA Agriculture Directorate, who thanked the attendees and highlighted the importance of continuing to generate spaces for updating and technology transfer to strengthen the agricultural development of the region.
