Water Network Disinfection in Las Tablas

The disinfection of the water supply network has begun in Las Tablas. Water service is suspended for 36 hours to ensure safety for the upcoming Thousand Polleras Parade.

The regional director of Idaan added that once this phase is completed, the same disinfection protocol will be applied in the Guararé district, and subsequently in the rest of the Los Santos district, which also receive water supply from this water purification plant. Likewise, security authorities indicated that they are working to ensure the process develops in the most accurate and rapid manner possible, with the aim of guaranteeing the supply of drinking water in the face of the arrival of thousands of visitors who will arrive in the Azuero region for the Thousand Polleras Parade, scheduled for January 17. De Gracia stated that the water will not be intended for human consumption until specialists from the Ministry of Health certify its quality through the corresponding tests, as part of the established health protocols. According to Julissa De Gracia, regional director of Idaan in the province of Los Santos, the process includes the application of a disinfectant solution, so the population was advised not to open the taps or use the water for an approximate period of 36 hours, while the system remains closed to all users. Users in the district expressed their discomfort due to the interruption of the drinking water supply before the previously announced time, causing problems in homes and businesses. As announced by the authorities, this Monday the disinfection process of the drinking water distribution network began, as part of the management carried out from the Rufina Alfaro regional water purification plant, with the Las Tablas district being the first network to undergo this procedure. Finally, the call to the population was reiterated to take the necessary precautions and to remain attentive to official communications regarding the water certification and the progressive normalization of the service. The official explained that it was necessary to suspend the supply to all customers, as it is required to allocate the entire production of the plant to the disinfection process, in order to guarantee the effectiveness of the procedure.
