National Operation to Control Official Vehicles During Thousand Polleras Parade

Panama's Comptroller's Office announced a national operation to inspect official vehicles during the Thousand Polleras Parade. Severe penalties, including fines and dismissal, are in place for violations of vehicle use rules.

The General Comptroller's Office of the Republic will carry out a national operation to control official vehicles during the Thousand Polleras Parade, to be held on January 17 in Las Tablas, Los Santos province. To ensure compliance with this provision, a national vehicle verification operation will be developed, aimed at ensuring that state assets are used exclusively for essential official missions, such as health, security, and social care. The entity has informed public servants and state institutions that the use of official vehicles is strictly prohibited, with the sole exception of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), in accordance with Circular MEF-2025-81562 of December 5, 2025, and Circular No. 1-2026-DC-DNFG of January 5, 2026. All entities and collaborators were also requested to refrain from authorizing official missions on the indicated date. In case of recurrence, a fine of $500 and possible dismissal of the administrative director will be applied, in accordance with article 8 of the current decree. The Comptroller's Office warns that the sanctions for non-compliance are: immediate retention of the infringing vehicle, a $200 fine for the driver, and a $300 fine for the head of transport. In addition, a report on the results of the operation will be presented within five business days after the event.
