An event marked by violence took place on Saturday during the 2026 National Mayor Baseball Championship, after a brawl in the match between Los Santos and Veraguas left one person injured after being hit on the head with a baseball bat at the Roberto 'Flaco Bala' Hernández stadium, located in the city of Las Tablas.
The incident occurred during the match, when Veraguas was leading 5-0, generating a chaotic situation that forced the immediate suspension of the game. The National Police of Panama reported that it acted immediately upon the aggression, achieving the apprehension of the presumed responsible party.
«The National Police informs that the person who assaulted another citizen with a baseball bat, after a brawl that occurred at the Roberto 'Flaco Bala' Hernández stadium during the match between Los Santos and Veraguas in the Mayor Championship, was apprehended», the statement reads.
The Panamanian Baseball Federation (Fedebeis) confirmed what happened and explained the measures taken after the altercation in an official communiqué.
«During the development of the match, an altercation involving fans and players from both teams was recorded, a situation that compromised the safety of those present», the communiqué details, confirming the suspension of the match.
«The Panamanian Baseball Federation and its Technical Committee inform that a thorough investigation process has already been initiated to clarify the facts. The apprehension was carried out immediately by the police units», the entity explained on social networks.
«The institution reiterates that it was not contacted by the Panamanian Baseball Federation to provide security at this sports coliseum during the corresponding match on Saturday, March 28, 2026», they added.
