Residents and merchants in the Mariato district, affected by frequent power outages lasting up to five consecutive days, announced protests. In response, representatives of electricity distribution and generation companies held a meeting with local authorities and community members. The meeting, held in Playa Reina, saw company representatives explain the situation and outline potential alternatives to the problem. It was attended by Mariato Mayor Ángel Batista, as well as residents and merchants who have reported significant financial losses due to power interruptions. Electricity company personnel stated that the outages are mainly due to maintenance work on transmission and distribution lines. However, they pointed out that there are technical alternatives to reduce the impact and avoid prolonged supply interruptions, committing to evaluate and apply corrective measures. Meanwhile, those affected expressed their discontent and warned that they will file formal complaints and requests for compensation for damages amounting to several thousand dollars, including losses from white-line equipment, food, and other harm caused by the lack of electricity. Following the dialogue, authorities announced that for now, the plans to protest and block roads in the Mariato district are suspended, pending the fulfillment of commitments by the power companies and improvements in service stability. The situation is not exclusive to Mariato, as a similar scenario is unfolding in the Santa Fe district, which has been severely affected by constant power fluctuations, keeping residents and merchants on alert in that region.
