Two Consortiums Approved for Panama Cable Car Project

Two international consortia will compete for the right to build a $278.6 million cable car in Panama. The project aims to improve transport links between the Panama and San Miguelito districts.


Two consortia have been announced for the construction of a cable car in Panama, connecting the San Miguelito district with Metro Line 2. The first consortium is Teleférico SPE, composed of companies from Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. The second consortium, Teleférico de San Miguelito, includes the Spanish company Cointer and the Austrian company Doppelmayr. The project, costing $278.6 million, aims to improve mobility for residents, especially in hard-to-reach areas. The 6.6-kilometer cable car will feature six stations. The deadline for submitting bids, initially set for November 17, 2025, has been postponed to January 15, 2026. Companies can submit their proposals from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with the envelopes to be opened at 11:01 AM on the same day.
