Panama Hosts International Mining Expo 2025

Panama is hosting the International Mining Expo 2025, taking place from November 25th to 27th. The event has brought together over 2,000 attendees from nine countries. As part of the expo, the General Assembly of the Latin American Mining Organization (OLAMI) will be held, recognizing Panama's emerging role as a regional hub to promote responsible mining and institutional governance.

Zorel Morales, Executive Director of CAMIPA, emphasized that responsible mining goes beyond economics; it involves knowledge, science, institutions, trust, and a national vision. Key topics on the agenda include governance, comparative mineral taxation, and Panama's challenges in establishing a clear and socially accepted regulatory framework.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI) highlighted the expo as a platform for technical analysis and building a shared vision for the future of responsible mining in Panama and Latin America. Engineer Alfredo Burgos, National Director of Mineral Resources at MICI, stated that Panama is at a decisive moment to solidify itself as a regional center for knowledge, modern regulation, and international standards.

The central theme of the International Mining Expo 2025 is «Strategic Mining for the Sustainable Development of Latin America». The first day featured seven thematic blocks, including keynote lectures and roundtables on governance and legal frameworks, public policy, sustainability, mineral taxation, strategic communication, and responsible financing.

Among the key presentations were: • «Governance and fiscal framework for the mineral resource in Latin America» by Eduardo Lanza, President of ProMinera of Peru. • «Mining and wine: productive coexistence in Mendoza, Argentina», presented as a case study of balance between industry and community. • Analysis of royalty models and comparative mineral taxation by specialist Johan Schmid. • Global standards for sustainable mining and ESG convergence with Pierre Gratton, CEO of The Mining Association of Canada. • Analysis of ethics and transparency in mining finances by experts from Panama, Canada, and the United States.

The first day concluded with the official inauguration ceremony, where Roque Benavides, CEO of Buenaventura Mines (Peru), delivered the keynote lecture «The contribution of mining to sustainable development».
