The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) of Panama announced that starting Monday, December 1, 2025, the horseshoe-type interchange on the Transístmica highway will be opened to the public.
This work is part of the "Design, Construction and Financing of the Interchange: La Cabima Entrance and Horseshoe-type Interchange in Ciudad Bolívar" project. The MOP informed that this measure will benefit drivers and users traveling through North Panama, facilitating turns to different points in the city and the province of Colón.
Users heading to Colón and wishing to return to Central Panama must use the horseshoe-type interchange. Those coming from Colón and seeking to enter Ciudad Bolívar must take the return located at the Monseñor Francisco Beckmann College. For those traveling from Ciudad Bolívar to Central Panama, this return will be the mandatory route, as the current traffic lights will be deactivated.
Security Measures: The MOP reminded that left turns at the entrance to Ciudad Bolívar and the level return after Panablock will be definitively closed. The entity also asked for the collaboration of residents and users in the area to facilitate the work and thanked them for their understanding of the temporary inconveniences.
Bella Vista will have partial closures due to improvement works on 42nd Street East
The MOP also announced to the residents of the Bella Vista district and the general public that, as part of the "Study, Design, Construction, Rehabilitation and Financing of streets in the district of Panama", maintenance and rehabilitation works will be carried out, causing partial closures during day and night shifts in the area.
The works include land grading, pipe placement, box construction, and asphalt paving, aiming to improve the road infrastructure and ensure better circulation for drivers and pedestrians in the area. Additionally, it urged all users to respect traffic signs and the operational speed limits of the road.
With this new interchange, it is expected to improve vehicular flow and reduce accidents on one of the most transit routes in North Panama.
San Miguelito Bridge will be illuminated with a new nocturnal system
On the other hand, it was also reported that from Monday 1st to Saturday 6th of December, nocturnal rehabilitation works will be carried out on the vehicular bridge that connects Simón Bolívar Avenue, Ricardo J. Alfaro Avenue, José Domingo Díaz Avenue and Boyd-Roosevelt Avenue.
The intervention seeks to install a new lighting system to improve safety and visibility at the main road interchange in the district.
Attention drivers!
The work will be carried out from Monday 1st to Thursday 4th of December 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., in front of the El Rey supermarket, on 42nd Street East. The MOP recommends that drivers use alternative routes and respect the signage indicating detours to avoid delays. It also requests the collaboration of residents and merchants by avoiding parking vehicles in the areas marked for work, thus ensuring that the works are carried out quickly and safely.
